Our First Glimpse of Baby

11th December 03 - Mei and Myself when for our first doctor's appointment today. Being the Kiasu people that we are, we arrived at SJMC by 7:15 a.m. even though the doors to the outpatient clinic would not open for another half an hour. Nevertheless, we assured ourselves that we weren’t the most Kiasu people in KL, there was already 2 ladies in front of us looking towards us with pride in their faces and heavy bags under their eyes.

After collecting our number we had time for a quick breakfast before the registration counter opens at 8:30 a.m. so we headed towards a local mamak shop for some local nasi lemak and mouth watering tosai. It was a good thing that Mamak food agrees with Mei cause you know how pregnant women can be like with food... besides that was the only thing available at 8 a.m.

By 8:15 a.m. we were all ready and excited that we could leave the place as our numbers were being called. Little do we know that after registering to see our Gynecologist at 8:30 a.m. we would need to wait for a good hour before the doctor actually shows up. And so we waited and waited and waited till just before 9:30 a.m. the nurse placed a signage that reads "The doctor is away on an emergency/delivery and will attend to you as soon as possible!!" *Argh*

What!! Before I proceed, for the benefit of those who do not know me, let me just clarify that I am obsessed with Time, I am extremely impatient, even when I am asleep and if you need to benchmark some form of ISO on being "impatient", you can use me as a standard.

OK, will continue now. I was so impatient that I really felt like going off to work first and coming back later to collect Mei when she was done. Although she assured me that it was ok for me to go, I knew deep down inside that I would be branded as a useless husband if I did – “here is the pride speaking”... And so we waited and waited and waited.... I nearly went bananas...

Finally, 5 hours into the waiting, we saw this grey haired lady limping towards the doctor’s room only to be stopped by a couple of patient. We knew instantly that she was the doctor we have so patiently waited to see.

Our consultation was merely 10 min and new fathers out there who are going for your first visit; believe me when I say that the 5 hour long wait was totally worth it.

I expected to see a small globe or a dot or something whitish but the picture was amazing. Our baby has grown 2 cm and even then you could see the Baby's head, the body, 2 arms and 2 legs. Gosh you could even see the baby's belly button!!!! (At least that is what I have imagined it to be)

Anyway Mei is 2 mths pregnant and the expected due date is 16 July 2004.

False Alarm!!

I was in Puchong having dinner with Mum & Dad, (my Parents) since Mei had to work late that night. As I was leaving Puchong, I called her whilst she was having dinner with Mummy & Daddy (Mei's parents). As I was planning to drop by Centerpoint, I asked if she needed anything from Guardian (a local pharmacy chain). I knew that she wanted me to purchase a home pregnancy kit (HPK), just wanted to put her on the spot while she was with her parents.

Anyway I think it was MYR25 for a pack of 2 kits (not cheap), I got home and started read the instructions to fulfill my curiosity. After all it was the first time I have seen a HPK up-close. Simple enough to use but deep down inside I of course thought that Mei was just being paranoid about being pregnant.

I was so not convinced that she was pregnant I recalled saying to her.... "if it is positive, wake me in the morning, if not I will call you later in the day" - that was how certain that Mei was being paranoid which is pretty much her normal self. If you truly know my wife, she is quite the drama queen.

Well, true enough I woke up at my usual time and called her just before lunch. I could tell that a small part of her was sad but at the same time a little relieved....

Prophetic Words!!

It was a slow and relaxed weekend so Mei and I decided that we will visit our favorite kids - The "Lau" Musketeers. We watched as Lu Jen was engulfing All the Dragon Fruits on the table while Tjia Yee climbing all over Mei.

They are sweet and adorable kids especially Lu Jen. Lu Jen is the youngest of 4 and the kind of baby that if you don't have a child, he will inspire you to want to have some right away.

As I was glued to Lu Jen, Mei was relaxing on the couch with Tjia Yee by her side listening to Jean’s stories. Jean was telling us a story about how anointed Tjia Yee is especially when she is looking out for a parking space. When Tjia Yee prays it is almost guaranteed that Jean will get a space. Just as she was completing her story, Tjia Yee laid her hands on Mei's abdomen and said "Got Baby". You could imagine the look on Mei’s face. She was blue, shocked beyond words could describe because she was after all a week late. When asked that Tjia Yee repeat herself, in her own words she said "Got Baby Inside" and then walked swiftly away.

We later found out that she was blessed with prophetic wisdom. Two weeks later we decided to visit Tjia Yee again to seek after the baby gender....and while we are at it, let’s go for next week's 4D as well.... but since she is still not too good with numbers, we may take a rain cheque on that till she turns 5.
